Unclassy Limo Passengers
‘Thanks for the memories,’ isn’t exactly what Grace Jones - the Amazonian Bond girl - told her audience at an exclusive Aussie retreat on the weekend.
In fact, before the arrival of chef, Gordon Ramsay, gossip writers could count on outrageous performer Grace Jones to keep the censors busy. Seems not much has changed for the 60-year-old singer, who punctuated the end of her four-song set at a resort launch at the weekend with a few choice words. With swearing so fashionable these days, thanks to the F-word chef, the crowd at The Elandra Resort, Mission Beach opening embraced Jones, who stayed at the shindig until the bar ran dry at 2am.
Grace Jones' masculine appearance, height and manner influenced the cross-dressing movement of the 1980s. As a singer she had hits in the 1970s, ’80s and is probably best known for her dance club music. She has a new album due to be released in the later part of 2008. As an actor, she is a three-time Saturn Award nominee, a Grammy nominee and Razzie Award nominee. In 1986, her for "Slave to the Rhythm," received a nomination for Best Female Video.
Jones had arrived at the resort in a buggy and was covered in black attire with a scarf covering her face and a tartan cap as she lit a cigarette before getting into an awaiting limousine. “I’m very tired," the singer said as she walked to the limousine where she was whisked away to Mission Beach for a resort launch locals are dubbing the party of the year. She is rumoured to be staying for a week with a limousine at her service 24 hours a day, in case she needed to go to another party.
Jones’ amazing lack of grace should come as no surprise, as controversy and she, seem an inseparable couple. In 1981, Jones slapped chat show host Russell Harty across the face live on air after he turned to interview other guests; voted in a 2006 BBC pool as the most shocking event in British TV chat show moments. It seems that age has indeed not wearied her nor stemmed acerbic tongue.
Grace is living proof that driving around in a classy hired limo doesn’t automatically make you classy. However, when it comes to the ultimate in transportation, nothing beats a limo for style; a limo can help you ‘get in the zone’ for a classy night out.
